Disruption to SNAP Benefits - Food Assistance for Elizabeth Residents

Dear Partners and Community Members affected by the disruption to SNAP Benefits due to the Federal Government Shutdown:

We, at St. Joseph Social Service Center, are committed to alleviating hunger and providing social services with love, dignity and compassion. As a response to the federal government shutdown and the disruption to the SNAP/Food Stamps Program, starting Monday, November 3, we have prepared to provide emergency food assistance to SNAP recipients and furloughed government workers residing in Elizabeth, NJ who may be experiencing food-related hardship.

St. Joseph Social Service Center will begin an emergency choice food pantry located at our Main Hall at 118 Division St. Elizabeth, NJ 07201. The hours of operation of the emergency choice food pantry for the week of 11/3 are Monday to Friday from 1pm-4pm, and Tuesday from 9am-12pm. We will be closed for Veteran’s Day (11/11), Thanksgiving (11/27), and the day after Thanksgiving (11/28). We will host Community Food Distributions, open to all, on Saturday, 11/8, Tuesday, 11/18 and Tuesday 11/25 starting at 9:15 A.M.

To participate in our emergency choice food pantry, clients must be Elizabeth residents and provide a valid ID, and their EBT/Food Stamps card or Government-issued ID for furloughed government workers. Clients can make an appointment by calling (908) 354-5456 ext. 408 or email [email protected].

We are thankful to our network of generous and caring donors who have made this program possible in just over 24 hours. Our community demonstrates just how much people care about each other by always going above and beyond.

Rooted in faith and guided by love, we will continue serving our Elizabeth neighbors with dignity and compassion. May faith, hope, and love sustain us as we care for one another and uplift our community in this time of need.

With blessings and solidarity,
St. Joseph Social Service Center
