Annual Appeal 2018
Dear Friends,
Throughout the day at St. Joseph Social Service Center, there is never a shortage of hugs and smiles exchanged between clients, volunteers, donors, and staff. This is the caring environment where many come through our doors to receive the necessities for daily living – food and clothing for their families. Some turn to St. Joseph’s for assistance with employment, medication, and mental health counseling. Thankfully, many of the people we see each day are there to share their blessings with donations of food, time and talent. Recently, Janet G., stopped by to say thank you. She proudly showed us her son’s invitation to the National Honor Society induction ceremony. Janet wanted us to know that St. Joseph’s was a part of his success. The family arrived from Ecuador last year and we helped them with food, clothing, and medicine. Janet said that, thanks to St. Joseph’s, her son was able to thrive in school. We explained that behind the faces she sees at the center, there are thousands of volunteers and donors like you that make such dreams come true. There are some days, after the smiles and thanks are exchanged, when I worry that we will not have the financial resources necessary to help people like Janet and her family. It costs $2,000 per day to keep our doors open. The needs are always present: food for 500 families each month, prescription assistance for clients with limited or no insurance, utility bills, and maintaining equipment such as refrigerators and classroom computers. During our Annual Appeal, we turn to you to help fund the vital services that enable St. Joseph’s to be that safety net for so many. In fact, the Annual Appeal is the safety net for St. Joseph’s!
