We believe that volunteers are the backbone of our organization. They bring a human touch and a caring approach to all that we do. Without the help we receive from our dedicated volunteers, we would not be able to provide our wide range of services. Our volunteers come to us from schools, churches, businesses, civic organizations, social groups – and, of course, some are families and groups of friends, eager to help. Volunteer Opportunities Adult Learning Center- ESL Tutors Starting June 15, 2026, St. Joseph Social Service Center will offer English Conversation Classes to help adult learners practice speaking and listening skills in a welcoming environment. We are seeking volunteers to assist with conversation groups and one-on-one tutoring. No teaching experience is required—just patience, kindness, and a willingness to help a neighbor grow in confidence. Summer Conversation Classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the following times: • 10:00–11:00 AM • 11:00 AM–12:00 PM • 1:00–2:00 PM • 2:00–3:00 PM Volunteers may serve weekly or choose the days and times that best fit their schedule. Food Pantry Restocking Volunteers help keep our shelves organized and stocked so that families can have the best possible experience when they visit the pantry. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM and 1:00 PM-4:00 PM. Because this role involves moving and stocking food and supplies, volunteers must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
